Article Marketing Seo Tricks To Get Your Articles Seen Within The First 10 Results On Google

May 3rd, 2010 admin No comments

If you want to get your articles within the top 10 results on Google or other search engines, listen up, because these tips are POWERFUL for SEO.

1) Put the keywords your audience is looking for within the title of your article. For example, if you sell golf carts, then you could use “How to Find the Perfect Golf Cart” or “Golf Carts – Which Ones Are the Best?”

Google loves titles and headlines. It’s one of the first things their algorithms look at when they spider your website or article repositories like EzineArticles. The spiders put huge emphasis on the title of your articles, so make sure you pick the keywords for it very carefully.

2) Put the keywords you used in the title in the first couple of sentences of your article. Let’s take the golf cart example again. You could write something like “Looking for the perfect golf cart? Read this article to see which golf carts you may want to look at.”

Google also loves the first part of your article. Consider that this part of the listing typically shows up in the “description” part of Google’s results (if you don’t put a special meta-description for the article). When you match up the title and the first few sentences of an article, Google judges your article to be an aesthetic (relevant) match for it’s users.

3) Make sure your article is about the title you are using. Again with the golf example (I don’t like golf, nor do I play it, I don’t know why I picked this…:-) ) – if you are writing about golf carts, don’t make your article about the best golf swing. This will mislead your readers and Google could penalize you.

4) Always, always, always use keywords if the option is available. You may be uploading your own articles to WordPress or your own site, or you may be uploading them to some article directories that allow you to enter keywords within a submission field. MAKE SURE you include relevant keywords within these fields or the meta-keywords option. Google puts high priority on this function. Do not ignore this.

5) Most people don’t know this next tip – name your pictures and files with the keywords with which you want to optimize your articles. Example: if you have a picture of a golf cart, populate it’s “properties” in an HTML editing program with relevant keywords – golf, cart, best golf carts, etc. Google LOVES this.

It also has an aesthetic effect. Have you ever hovered over a picture and words appear over it? That’s what this effect does. It’s a bit more technical, so if you don’t know how to do this, learn how or have a webmaster do it for you.

We will continue with more highly potent SEO strategies for getting your articles within the top 10 spots on Google in future articles.

SEO Tricks that Could Get You in Trouble

May 2nd, 2010 admin No comments

In other words – getting people to your site without actually providing quality content. It’s bad – don’t do it! But, just for grins – go over this list and see if you are doing it and you don’t even know it’s Black Hat!

Keyword Stuffing

Are you placing keywords in your text that are unrelated to the content of your page? For instance, if your site is selling a cookbook full of delectable dessert recipes, but you know most people are looking for cookbooks for low-calorie desserts, so you fill your web site with keywords that weight conscious web surfers are using – easily found within Google keywords tool. This brings more traffic to your site where you hope to entice them to buy your cookbook. So not only are responsible for using Black Hat SEO techniques you’re also responsible for the added inches on thousands of hips!

Hidden and Invisible Text

This technique is used by changing the color of unrelated keywords to the same color as your background. As a web developer, I have had numerous new clients tell me their last web developer or SEO company did this – I’m always a little shocked when I hear it and surprised that the client doesn’t understand that this is deceptive. So if you’re doing it on your web site – don’t – you can easily get banned by the search engines if you do.

Meta Tag Stuffing

The search engines have really streamlined meta tag guidelines in recent years, in large part to prevent this technique. Now you only need to list individual related keywords separated by commas. EX: cookbook, dessert, recipe, fattening, yummy, calories, etc. NOT: weight loss, exercise, gym membership, diet, diets, diet, diets, etc.

Link Farms

There are many services that advertise that they can get your site listed on hundreds of sites. Many times the web sites are all inter-linked, creating a Link Farm. Black Hat companies do this by creating a community of several hundred or thousand mirror sites that all link to each other. So you if you use them, you do get a lot of incoming links to your site, but they are not high-value links and search engines know who the link farms are and can penalize your web site for using them. The best way to get incoming links is to personally choose which high-value web sites relate to your services and submit your web site one at a time. It’s time-consuming, but your rankings will increase because they are links that relate to your services and it will bring the kind of targeted traffic needed to your site.

Mirror Web Sites

This can be a little controversial as it is used more widely in the internet marketing world. Mirror web sites are the practice of creating multiple web sites with essentially the same content, but with different urls containing high value keywords. For example, you have a web site promoting your delectable dessert recipes and so you create 5 web sites with virtually the same content and buy 5 different urls that use high-value keywords such as the-best-dessert-recipes.com, chocolate-dessert-recipes.com, low-calorie-dessert-recipes.com, etc, etc.

There are a long list of Black Hat techniques, which you can read about on Wikipedia. Most search engines aggressively fight these techniques by analyzing your web site content to identify potential red flags. So if you’re caught participating in any of these techniques, your web site can be banned from the search engine or dropped from rankings. Instead, fill your web site with high-value content that users want to read!!!! You will drive more targeted traffic, get plenty of sales, and be able to sleep at night knowing that you are not responsible for selling fattening dessert recipes to be people desperately trying to lose weight!

5 Amazing Seo Tricks To Help Bring You Loads Of Traffic To Your Affiliate Or Adsense Website

May 1st, 2010 admin No comments

So how can you optimize your website to get tons of free traffic and rank at the top with the best search engines. What is this SEO recipe? There are 5 major components to this. These are, creating proper meta tags with proper keywords for your website, the number of directory submissions, the number of reciprocal links to your website, the number of inbound links via articles, forums, classified ads, etc; and timely updates to your website. So let’s analyze every member of this list:

These days you hear a lot of talk about how search engines don’t look at meta tags anymore in order to properly index and rank your website. This is not entirely true. Placing the proper meta tag title, description, and keywords in your HTML coding will give your website a HUGE boost of credibility in the eyes of the search engines. Always place proper meta tags on your website no matter what anyone says!

Submitting your website to as many directories as possible will help you rank high with the search engines. By finding as many directories as possible and submitting your website to them, you are gaining exposure and inbound links via searches. When search engines such as Google index your site, they weigh in this factor and directly use it to determine just how important your website is to the internet. Submit your website to at least 50 directories!

Another great way to gain page rank with search engines is to have as many backlinks (or reciprocal links) as possible. This is when you agree to directly link to another website, in return for that website linking directly to yours. This could very well be the most powerful method to gain page rank, get indexed, and attain top search results of all the SEO strategies described in this article. However, overdoing it will not be to your benefit. A good way to backlink with other websites is to do it with the every directory that you are submitting your website to (the same directories that I spoke of earlier). Directory links will give your website tremendous validity because essentially you are linking to massive online networks this way. So make sure you opt to make reciprocal links with all the directories you submit your website to. You can also buy backlinks from prominent websites!

Always try to get as much free inbound links as possible. Don’t ever quit! Keep writing and posting your links throughout articles, blogs, forums, press releases, classified ads, online groups (such as yahoo answers, Google groups, twitter, etc), Squidoo, social bookmarking, email lists, AdWords, and as many others as you can think of. All of these inbound links will add up very quickly, and will prove to the search engines that your site is important to the web community.

Finally, after doing the previous four steps that I have mentioned, your site should be indexed, have a high page rank, top listing with search engines, and should be getting floods of free, targeted traffic. However, you must keep updating your site with new material if you want to maintain that status. Without this last step, you could loose a lot of your hard-earned SEO points if the search engines declare your site stagnant. Don’t let it happen to you!

An Introduction to Search Engine Optimization

May 1st, 2010 admin No comments

Search Engine Optimization, though an integral part of developing a complete web presence, is something that’s often overlooked by both web design companies and their clients alike. This article is meant to serve as an introduction to Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and it will be followed with a 2nd article which contains a basic primer on how to go about properly optimizing a site. My intended audience for this first article is the savvy consumer who is trying to educate himself or herself, and the follow-up article will endeavor to help those design/development firms who are only just breaking into the world of SEO.

What is Search Engine Optimization?

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is the process of increasing a site’s ranking on search engines such as Google, Yahoo, or MSN. Ideally, you want your business to appear as the first result to someone who is searching for a product or service you provide to your customers. For example, if you own a vegetarian restaurant in Philadelphia, it would significantly increase your restaurant’s exposure if your website were the first result for “vegetarian restaurant Philadelphia” on Google. This type of positioning is the goal of search engine optimization.

Organic Results vs. Paid Results

It is important to understand the difference between organic search results and paid search results. Organic search results are selected and positioned by the search engine itself, with no external bias toward one site over another. With organic searching, the order of results is determined exclusively by the relevance of the site to the user’s specific query, as determined by the search engine’s internal algorithms. Search engine optimization endeavors to “educate” the search engine about a site so that the site will be seen as relevant for certain queries, and therefore given better positioning in the results. This “most relevant site first” method of ordering search results is in sharp contrast to pay-per-click, in which the highest bidder for a given search query is given preference. However, pay-per-click results are generally shown on separate parts of the screen from the main organic results, usually at the top of the window or in a sidebar labeled “sponsored links”. Although there are compelling reasons to launch a pay-per-click campaign as part of your online marketing plan, this article focuses exclusively on organic search optimization.

Won’t the search engines just find my site on their own?

Modern search engines are very adept at crawling the web and creating a comprehensive index that contains every website they come across. However, the algorithms used by search engines take into account many different factors when determining where to position a site, and if your site doesn’t measure up when it comes to some of the more important factors, you will end up buried among thousands or millions of other sites.

Search engines have one goal: to return the most relevant results to a user’s query in order to help them find what they are looking for. Why is it, then, that if you do in fact own a vegetarian restaurant in Philadelphia, your website can still get buried on page 29 for the exact query “vegetarian restaurant in Philadelphia”? One reason for this apparent discrepancy is that search engines don’t view websites the way a person does. When a search engine downloads a web page, it sees only the markup code that was used to create the site – it doesn’t see visual elements like graphics or page layout. If the site hasn’t been optimized, more often than not, the search engine’s back-end view of the site offers little indication of what content is important and what the primary focus of the site is. These search engine “spiders” – the algorithms that do the actual searching and indexing – can make a good guess as to what the site is about, but without a clear understanding of why it would be a great result for a specific search query, the site will end up in a mediocre position at best.

Another reason sites receive a poor ranking is that they simply don’t appear to be very important to the grand scheme of the Internet. Search engines are trying to return the most useful results to their users, so if your content appears to be of little value, and if no other sites on the web are linking back to yours, your site is going to be very poorly positioned. One way to combat this problem is to work to build inbound links, which are links to your site from other sites. This can be accomplished by submitting your site to online directories, participating in forum discussions or blog discussions relevant to your site and including a link back, or by marketing the site via press releases or external product reviews (where applicable). Inbound links, however, aren’t the whole story, and it takes a comprehensive SEO plan to ensure long term, first page positioning, especially in competitive markets.

Why didn’t my web designer optimize my site when he built it?

There is a common misconception that search optimization is simply a matter of altering the design of the site or adding a few keywords to the content, and that such SEO-related tasks should be handled by the web designer prior to the site launch. While it’s true that there are design elements that need to be addressed when optimizing a site, SEO is, in many ways, a marketing effort rather than a technical one. The optimization process involves tasks such as copywriting and press release distribution, which fall well outside the technical realm of web development. In the end, SEO is an entirely separate product and process from the actual web design, and it needs to be treated (and budgeted) as such.

Recall what I said earlier regarding search engines evaluating the overall importance of your site in order to determine its search positioning. Much like a print campaign or TV ad, your goal on the web is to increase brand awareness, because it gives a sense of stability and competitive importance to your company, and it creates a connection between the company and your customers. The idea of brand awareness is well understood and sought after in the marketing world, but it often becomes diluted when crossing over to the web, sometimes to the point of being tacked on as an afterthought to the development of a company website. SEO should, conversely, be considered an integral part of any marketing plan, and should be budgeted and managed separately from web design and development.

Who can optimize my site?

In the world of SEO, it’s very easy to find companies who are essentially selling snake oil. Oftentimes, these companies offer little more than “directory submission”, which, while it is a piece of the SEO puzzle when done correctly, may not affect your positioning at all when done incorrectly (in some cases, it can actually hurt your positioning).  Choosing the right SEO firm can be tricky, but Google has a page dedicated to the most important things to consider when choosing an SEO company. You can find that page here: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35291

To add to what Google has suggested on that page, it’s important that the SEO firm you choose offers a plan that is tailored specifically for your website. If their plan seems instead to consist of generic link building and indiscriminate directory submission, it’s likely that you won’t see the kind of results you would ideally expect (if you see any results at all). The SEO company should take the time to detail individual changes to each page of your site, and should suggest new pages to be added. Additionally, any good SEO firm will be able to not only provide analytics and metrics, but will also be able to explain the data’s significance within the context of your specific website.

Conclusion

Search engine optimization should be considered an integral part of developing your company’s web presence, but it’s important to remember that SEO effectively crosses the boundary between technical process and marketing endeavor, so it needs to be managed and budgeted as an independent project, rather than being tacked on as part of the general site design. If your web development company doesn’t offer comprehensive and developed SEO services, it is important to hire a separate SEO firm and facilitate ongoing cooperation between the two companies.
